At the 5th Combined Convocation Ceremony of the Gateway (ICT) Polytechnic, Saapade, Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, made a significant gesture to recognize academic excellence, awarding N2 million each to the top three best graduating students. This rewarding initiative celebrates the outstanding academic achievements of Ifunanya Agu, Victor Omontuhen, and Suliat Yusuf, who emerged as the highest achievers from the 2021/2022, 2022/2023, and 2023/2024 sessions, respectively.

Governor Abiodun, represented by his deputy, Noimot Salako-Oyedele, used the occasion to inspire the graduates, urging them to be trailblazers in their fields and contribute to the advancement of society. “Step into the world as problem-solvers, innovators, and change-makers,” he urged, emphasizing the importance of using their acquired knowledge and skills for societal transformation.

In his address, the governor reaffirmed that education is a cornerstone of his administration’s development agenda. He emphasized that education should be seen not just as a means of acquiring knowledge, but as a transformative journey that builds character and empowers individuals to make a lasting impact on the world. “It’s not about earning certificates alone; it’s about shaping minds and preparing our youth for the challenges of tomorrow,” he said.

The Governor praised Gateway Polytechnic for its commitment to academic excellence, ensuring that its students are equipped with the necessary skills to excel in the global workforce. He also highlighted the institution’s role in contributing to the state’s broader goals, with a focus on equipping graduates who can positively impact Nigeria’s development.

Dr. Sanni Oseni, the Polytechnic’s Rector, shared in the celebration of academic success, commending the graduates for their perseverance and dedication. He also underscored the institution’s ongoing efforts to be more innovative in its academic programs and to foster entrepreneurial initiatives that turn knowledge into wealth. He further called for stronger partnerships with industries and telecommunication companies to better prepare students for real-world challenges.

Prof. Fashina, another key speaker at the ceremony, reinforced the need for the institution to create an industrial hub and expand its connections with the business world. He encouraged the graduates to stay focused on their visions, embrace challenges, and always strive for excellence, noting that they represent the future of the nation’s workforce.

In her valedictory address, the overall best graduating student, Suliat Yusuf, expressed deep gratitude to the faculty and staff of the institution for their support in shaping her academic journey. She urged her fellow graduates to continue embodying the values of the institution and pursue excellence in all their endeavors. “Be good ambassadors, set high goals, and continue to strive for greatness,” she urged.

This year’s convocation not only celebrated academic excellence but also served as a call to action for the new graduates to take on the world with the tools, knowledge, and drive to create a better tomorrow. Governor Abiodun’s reward for excellence and his inspiring words will undoubtedly resonate with the graduates as they embark on their next chapter.
