This is to inform the general public and intending candidates that registration for the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for private candidates 2025 – First series commenced on December 20th, 2024. Thirty-Six (36) subjects will be available for the examination. Prospective candidates are advised to visit the Council’s Corporate website – www.waecnigeria.org to confirm available examination towns and subjects before obtaining the registration PIN.
WAEC GCE Registration Period
- Normal Registration Start Date: December 20, 2024
- Closing Date for Generation of PIN: Monday, January 20, 2025
- Deadline for Biometrics and Online Registration: 11:59 PM on Wednesday, January 22, 2025
Candidates are advised to complete their registration within the specified timeframe.
How to Apply for the 2025 WAEC GCE
Step 1: Obtain the Registration PIN
Candidates must pay a registration fee of Twenty-Seven Thousand Naira (N27,000) only at branches of the following banks or accredited agents to obtain the Registration PIN and Information VCD:

Step 2: Register Online
After obtaining the Registration PIN, candidates should visit the official registration portal at www.waeconline.org.ng and:
- Create a profile using a valid email address and phone number.
- Complete the registration form with accurate personal and examination details.
- Upload a passport photograph (JPEG file only, 275 x 314 pixels with 72 dpi resolution) and digital signature.
- Print the Admission Notice/Photo Card as evidence of successful registration. This card contains the Result Checker PIN and serves as identification during the examination.
General Information
- Exam Format: The objective papers will be fully computer-based, while the essay and practical tests will be hybrid, combining digital display of questions with written answers.
- Mock Examination: Candidates who wish to familiarize themselves with the testing environment can register for an online mock examination. Dates and modalities will be communicated via SMS, email, and social media.
- Non-refundable Fee: The registration fee is non-refundable.
- Photo Requirements: Only high-quality black-and-white or color photographs with a contrasting background will be accepted. Poor-quality photos will invalidate the registration.
- Submission Accuracy: Candidates must ensure all personal information is correct during registration. Amendments will not be entertained after submission.
- Prohibited Items: Mobile phones, electronic gadgets, professional uniforms, and weapons are strictly prohibited in examination halls.
- Examination Hall Requirements: Candidates must bring their original Photo Card and adhere to all rules and regulations to avoid penalties, including result cancellation or prosecution for malpractice.
Walk-in Candidates
Candidates who wish to register after the close of entries may do so as “Walk-in Candidates” at a fee of Forty-Five Thousand Naira (N45,000.00). Registration must be completed at least 24 hours before the scheduled time of the examination paper.
Special Needs Candidates
Candidates with disabilities must register online and indicate their specific needs (e.g., blind, low vision, spastic, speech impairment, etc.). Provisions will be made to accommodate their requirements.
Completion of Registration
Candidates must complete their registration within two weeks of first accessing the website. They are advised to:
- Ensure accurate input of names, gender, passport photographs, date of birth, and subjects.
- Use only a Digital Personal Scanner for fingerprint registration.
- Download and study the regulations and syllabuses from the WAEC website using their Registration PIN.
- Continuously check the WAEC website for updates on the examination timetable.
