The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has advised corps members to shift their focus from white-collar jobs, emphasizing that such employment rarely leads to financial success. The scheme urged young graduates to embrace entrepreneurship, skill acquisition, and self-reliance instead of relying on traditional office jobs.
Speaking at an orientation camp, NYSC officials stressed the need for corps members to explore business opportunities and develop skills that can provide financial independence. The organization highlighted its Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) program as a viable alternative, offering training in various fields such as agriculture, fashion, ICT, and vocational trades.
The rising unemployment rate in Nigeria has made it increasingly difficult for graduates to secure formal jobs. Many young professionals struggle with underemployment and stagnant wages, making entrepreneurship a more attractive and sustainable option. NYSC believes that with the right mindset and training, corps members can create wealth and contribute to economic development.
By encouraging corps members to become job creators rather than job seekers, the scheme aims to reduce youth unemployment and foster economic growth. The call aligns with broader efforts to promote innovation, self-sufficiency, and financial empowerment among Nigerian youths
