The Executive Secretary of the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), Dr. Hamid Bobboyi, recently met with the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, to discuss critical issues surrounding school safety and access across Nigeria. The meeting, which took place in Abuja, focused on strategies to ensure that children can learn in a safe environment while also addressing barriers to education in underserved regions.
Dr. Bobboyi highlighted the growing concerns over school safety in parts of the country, particularly in regions affected by insecurity. He emphasized that ensuring the safety of students, teachers, and educational facilities is essential for creating a conducive learning environment. UBEC has been working with various government agencies and security bodies to develop effective measures to protect schools from external threats.
The two leaders also discussed enhancing access to quality education for children in rural and conflict-affected areas. Dr. Bobboyi urged Mallam Ribadu to assist in curbing criminal activities that impede children’s right to education, such as kidnapping and other forms of violence. He stressed that collaboration between educational authorities and security agencies is crucial to the success of education initiatives.
Mallam Ribadu assured Dr. Bobboyi of the EFCC’s commitment to supporting efforts that improve the safety of schools and ensure that every child has access to education. He emphasized the importance of using intelligence and law enforcement to prevent crimes that threaten educational systems and undermine national development.
Both officials agreed to continue working closely together to implement policies and initiatives aimed at safeguarding students and improving educational access nationwide. This partnership is expected to make significant strides in addressing challenges facing the Nigerian education sector, providing hope for a safer and more inclusive educational environment.
