The ongoing strike by non-academic staff at Taraba State University is set to come to a close soon, according to the Vice Chancellor, Professor Sunday Bako. The breakthrough came after nearly full agreement was reached between the striking staff and the state government, paving the way for staff to resume their duties.
Professor Bako shared the positive development with journalists in his office in Jalingo on Tuesday, noting that discussions between the government and the union over the weekend had been successful. He revealed that the union leaders are now in the process of drafting a communique to capture the details of the agreements made, which will be presented to the Vice Chancellor for vetting before being submitted to the staff members.
In light of the resolution, the Vice Chancellor announced that the university has officially rescheduled the exams that had been suspended due to the strike. The exams are now set to resume on Monday, 27 January 2025, marking the return to normal academic activities at the university.
Professor Bako commended Governor Agbu Kefas for his exceptional commitment to resolving the issues swiftly and ensuring that the academic calendar remains uninterrupted. He also extended his gratitude to the Ministry of Tertiary Education for its continuous efforts to address the union’s demands and facilitate the restoration of academic operations at the university.
With this development, students and staff can look forward to the resumption of academic activities and the continuation of exams as planned, bringing an end to the disruptions caused by the strike.
