The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced the suspension of admissions into the Law Faculty of Fountain University, Osogbo, for the 2025/26 academic session. This decision comes in response to an additional submission from the Council of Legal Education (CLE), which included a list of institutions banned from admitting new students into their law programs.
Dr. Fabian Benjamin, the Public Communication Advisor of JAMB, confirmed the suspension in a statement released on Friday. According to the announcement, Fountain University now joins a growing list of Nigerian universities where JAMB will not process admissions into their law programs for the upcoming academic session. This makes Fountain University the ninth institution affected by the decision, following the suspension of the Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) programs by the CLE.
Earlier, JAMB had disclosed that it would not be handling admissions for law programs at eight other universities due to the suspension of their LL.B programs by the CLE. The universities affected include Kwara State University, Malete; Bingham University, Karu; Redeemers University, Ede; Western Delta University, Oghara; Taraba State University, Jalingo; Arthur Jarvis University, Akpabuyo; Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ndufu-Alike; and Nigerian Police Academy, Wudil.
Dr. Benjamin emphasized that the suspension of the Law program at the Nigerian Police Academy, Wudil, will be in effect for two academic sessions, specifically the 2025/2026 and 2026/2027 sessions. This decision was made following the CLE’s directive to ensure the standardization and regulation of legal education across Nigerian institutions.
This suspension marks a significant step in the ongoing efforts to maintain the quality and integrity of legal education in Nigeria. As JAMB continues to enforce these regulations, students aspiring to study law at the affected institutions will have to explore alternative pathways for their academic pursuits in the field.
