The eagerly awaited 2025 edition of the Port Harcourt Education Champions League (ECL) quiz competition is set to begin with registration now open for interested secondary schools across Rivers State. Organised annually to promote academic excellence, critical thinking, and teamwork, the competition invites schools to engage in an intellectual contest that tests the knowledge and abilities of students.
According to a press release from the organisers, the competition has grown in stature, with the 2024 edition marking a significant achievement. Federal Government Girls College, Abuloma, emerged as the champions, and the 2025 competition is expected to bring even more excitement. This year’s event promises larger challenges, fresh opportunities, and more attractive prizes for the top-performing schools.
The competition serves as a platform for students to showcase their academic prowess, offering them a chance to demonstrate their knowledge and analytical skills in a highly competitive environment. Additionally, it fosters teamwork by encouraging students to develop leadership, collaboration, and problem-solving abilities.
The Education Champions League competition also provides schools the opportunity to gain recognition as centres of academic excellence while rewarding the students with various prizes. The previous year’s prizes included the prestigious O.B. Lulu Briggs Prize of ₦10 million, awarded to Federal Government Girls College, Abuloma. Other notable prizes included the Claude Ake Prize (₦5 million) won by Seacrest Preparatory School, Port Harcourt, and the Boma Erekosima Prize (₦2.5 million) awarded to Aladumo International School, also in Port Harcourt. Enitonna High School, another Port Harcourt institution, won a ₦1.5 million prize.
With registration now open, schools are encouraged to seize this opportunity to compete for what promises to be an exciting and rewarding event. The competition is not just about winning prizes; it is about fostering a culture of academic excellence and intellectual development across the state. As the date approaches, all eyes are on the upcoming competition, which is set to elevate the standard of academic contests in Rivers State and beyond.
The organisers are hopeful that the 2025 edition will continue to inspire and motivate students, schools, and communities to value education and the pursuit of knowledge.
