The University of Calabar (UniCal) has introduced a special concession for beneficiaries of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) who were unable to access their funds for the 2023/2024 academic session. The announcement was made by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic, Professor Tony Eyang, in a statement released on Tuesday.
Key Details of the Concession
Professor Eyang assured affected students that steps have been taken to resolve the issue for the 2024/2025 academic session. Students who have not yet graduated will be allowed to register for the new session, with their 2023/2024 loan disbursement allocated to their upcoming tuition fees.
Graduating students in the 2024/2025 session will be refunded the loan for that session after completing their bursary clearance.
For students who have already paid full tuition fees for both the 2023/2024 and 2024/2025 sessions, UniCal will process a refund for the 2023/2024 fees once the 2024/2025 loan is released.
Graduates from the 2023/2024 session will also receive a refund after completing their bursary clearance.
NELFUND Registration Process
Professor Eyang encouraged all eligible students to register for the 2024/2025 loan, noting that the verification process for applicants is currently ongoing. The university’s ICT Centre will serve as the primary hub for NELFUND registration. Students’ dashboards on the university fee portal will be updated to reflect the disbursement details.
He emphasized the importance of seizing this opportunity to access financial assistance through the Federal Government’s NELFUND initiative, designed to support students in tertiary institutions across Nigeria.
