The Lagos State Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM) launched a four-day Promotion Exercise Revised Structure Training Programme (RSTP) on Monday, aimed at equipping teachers eligible for promotion in 2025 with the necessary skills to assume higher-grade responsibilities. The training is being conducted simultaneously across all education districts in Lagos, with notable venues including Ikeja Senior Grammar School and Government College, Agege.
Key Aspects of the Training
The RSTP, a mandatory part of the promotion process, follows the initial Spadev scoring stage. It focuses on enhancing teachers’ proficiency in 21st-century teaching skills as part of the T.H.E.A.M.E.S Plus Agenda of the Lagos State Government. This agenda seeks to improve teaching effectiveness and overall educational standards in the state.
TESCOM Chairman, Mrs. Victoria Peregrino, addressed participants, encouraging them to approach the training with diligence, passion, and attentiveness. She emphasized the importance of reflecting the knowledge gained in their daily interactions with students, urging, “Take this exercise seriously as it will improve your ability to impart knowledge and foster better relationships with your students.”
Impact on Teaching Quality
Permanent Secretary of TESCOM, Mrs. Adebopo Oyekan-Ismaila, also reiterated the importance of the training, highlighting its role in improving classroom effectiveness and contributing to the enhancement of education quality across Lagos. A participant, Mrs. Yetunde Onikoyi, praised the program, noting that it had significantly improved her classroom management skills.
In Lagos Education District Six alone, over 280 teachers are participating in the training, which will continue throughout the week.
