A tragic incident unfolded in Igbe community, Ikorodu, Lagos State, where a member of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria, Kayode Goriola, was killed by suspected kidnappers in the early hours of Saturday, January 11, 2025. Goriola and his colleague were on duty when they encountered the assailants who entered the community via a swampy area.
According to a resident, Tunji Alao, the vigilantes tried to stop the kidnappers but were overpowered. Goriola was shot in the head by the attackers while his colleague was abducted. “The kidnappers arrived through a swampy area. Goriola and his colleague attempted to resist, but they were overpowered. The kidnappers shot Goriola in the head and took the other person,” Alao stated.
This marks the fourth kidnapping-related incident in the community. Another resident, Okla, recalled past incidents, including the abduction of a couple from their vehicle and the previous killing of a vigilante member. “The community is prone to kidnappings. This is the fourth time we’ve been attacked,” Okla said.
Lawal Abdullahi, the head of the vigilante group in the area, confirmed the death of Goriola and shared that the community was busy making burial arrangements. Efforts to reach the Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, for comment were unsuccessful.
