A police officer in Kebbi State has made headlines for rejecting a N1.6 million bribe offered by suspects involved in an alleged banditry case under investigation by the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID). The bribe attempt was made by Umar Garba from Dangandu village, his accomplice Abubakar Alhaji from Maimaichi village, and one Usman Muhammed from Bakaramba village.
According to Kebbi State Police Commissioner, Bello Sani, the bribe was offered in an attempt to compromise the investigation into banditry crimes allegedly committed by the Lakurawa group in the northern part of the state. The bribe was presented in the police command, leading to the swift arrest of the suspects, who will soon face charges in court for their attempt to interfere with the ongoing investigation.
Commissioner Bello praised the officer for upholding the integrity of the force and rejecting the illegal offer. He also assured the public of the police’s commitment to continuing their fight against banditry and holding criminals and their collaborators accountable.
