A 23-year-old man, Prince Nyerovho, has been arrested in Sapele, Delta State, for allegedly stabbing his 65-year-old father to death after consuming the synthetic drug known as “Colorado.” The tragic incident occurred on Sunday in the Amukpe area, leaving the local community in shock and disbelief.
According to family sources, Prince has struggled with addiction to synthetic cannabinoids, often referred to as “Spice.” His drug dependency had reportedly destabilized him, leading to frequent violent outbursts. In the past, he had been involved in violent incidents, including an attempt to strangle his mother.
A family member revealed, “This isn’t the first time Prince has exhibited violence under the influence of drugs. His addiction spiraled out of control, making him unpredictable. His mother tried to get him help, but the financial strain became too much to manage.”
Prince’s mother had sought help for him at rehabilitation centers in Benin City, Edo State, and a mental health facility in Sapele. However, her efforts ultimately proved unsuccessful due to a lack of resources.
On the day of the incident, after consuming “Colorado,” Prince allegedly demanded N5,000 from his father. When his father refused, Prince became enraged, leading to an escalation of the conflict. His father attempted to avoid the confrontation by locking himself in his room, but Prince’s anger only intensified. He forcefully broke down the door, and during the chaos, his younger sister was injured while trying to intervene.
A neighbor recalled, “She tried her best to stop him, but he wouldn’t listen. It was terrifying.” The commotion alerted other neighbors, who rushed to the scene and discovered Prince’s father lying lifeless on the floor after being fatally stabbed. His younger sister raised the alarm, and the community intervened.
By the time the police arrived, neighbors had subdued Prince and handed him over to the authorities. The body of his father was transported to the mortuary for an autopsy, while Prince was taken into custody for further investigation.
