The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has officially reinstated Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres located within correctional facilities in Kaduna, Lagos, and Ilorin. These centres, which were previously suspended due to reports of unethical practices, have now been cleared to resume operations.

Why Were the Centres Suspended?

Earlier, JAMB halted operations at these correctional facility-based CBT centres due to concerns about irregularities and potential exam malpractice. While specific details about the unethical practices were not fully disclosed, the suspension was necessary to maintain the integrity of the examination process within these facilities.

JAMB’s Decision to Lift the Suspension

After thorough reviews and corrective measures, JAMB has decided to reinstate the CBT centres, allowing inmates in these correctional facilities to once again participate in the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). The board’s decision follows assurances from officials of the correctional facilities that necessary steps have been taken to prevent further malpractice and ensure that the exam process remains transparent and fair.

What This Means for Inmates

With the reinstatement of CBT centres in prisons, JAMB is giving incarcerated individuals a chance to further their education. This move supports rehabilitation and reintegration efforts by the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), which aims to empower inmates with education to help them reintegrate into society after serving their sentences. JAMB’s commitment aligns with inclusive access to education for all Nigerians.

JAMB’s Commitment to Exam Integrity

Despite reinstating these centres, JAMB has assured the public that it will continue to closely monitor all examination centres—both inside and outside correctional facilities—to ensure that strict standards of fairness and transparency are upheld. The integrity of the UTME is a top priority.

Final Thoughts

By reinstating the CBT centres in Kaduna, Lagos, and Ilorin correctional facilities, JAMB has reinforced its dedication to equal educational opportunities while maintaining strict examination standards. This decision offers inmates a second chance at education, enabling them to work towards a better future beyond incarceration. For further updates on JAMB policies and examination processes, candidates and stakeholders are encouraged to visit the official JAMB website (www.jamb.gov.ng).
