Nollywood actress Halima Abubakar has spoken out about her prolonged battle with illness and financial difficulties, revealing how many people have doubted her condition.
In an emotional video shared on her Instagram page on Tuesday, the actress tearfully addressed her struggles, stating that despite appearing strong on social media, she is suffering in silence.
Speaking in the video, Abubakar explained that she has been battling health challenges for a long time but has tried to remain strong. She noted that people often assume she is fine because she posts filtered pictures online, but in reality, her condition remains critical.
She said:
“People are confused about what is happening. I’m not feeling fine up till now; I’m just good at being strong. I’m just pretending as if I’m okay.”
“This is the real me because every day you see me post pictures with the TikTok filter, but this is how I look.”
The actress also expressed her frustration over being accused of faking her illness, stating that she had undergone multiple medical check-ups at a Turkish hospital in Nigeria.
Abubakar lamented that she has been abandoned by Nollywood colleagues and betrayed by close friends who refuse to believe in her struggles. She recounted how some people claimed she was never sick and dismissed her health crisis as a lie.
“You sacked me from Nollywood, but what’s all this betrayal about? It’s a mad person that lies that they are sick.”
“They said I was never sick, that I was lying. I was in the village for more than one [year].”
She disclosed that due to her illness, she has been unable to act in movies for over six years, which has significantly impacted her career and finances.
The actress further revealed how the situation has left her heartbroken, questioning why people treat her harshly instead of offering support.
“It’s over six years since I have appeared in a movie. What else do you guys want? Do you want me to die or kill myself? I am heartbroken. Can’t you all see how I look?”
Abubakar stated that she has undergone three MRI scans and is now seeking financial support to continue her treatment.
Her revelations have sparked reactions online, with many Nigerians calling for support and assistance for the actress as she battles her condition.
