A violent clash between two rival cult groups claimed the life of a young man, Nasiru Isiaka, in Owo, Ondo State, on Sunday. This incident occurred just a week after a similar cult war left four people dead in the same area, heightening tension in the ancient town.
Eyewitnesses reported that two masked men, believed to be members of a rival cult, tracked Nasiru to the LA Gbanasa area. They shot him in the head and fled the scene after confirming his death. The killing marks another grim chapter in the ongoing conflict between these rival groups, which has shaken the community.
Ondo State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Funmi Odunlami, confirmed the incident and identified Nasiru as a notorious cultist. According to Odunlami, the deceased had been on the police’s wanted list for various crimes, including violent activities that date back to the End SARS protests.
“The command can confirm the murder of one Nasiru Isiaka, aged 40 years, a notorious cultist who has been on the police wanted list,” she said.
Odunlami disclosed that Nasiru had been involved in heinous acts, including attacking the Uso Police Division during the End SARS protests, stealing an AK-47 rifle and a bulletproof vest. He was also implicated in the killing of a community member identified as Adedeji Rafiu, alias P.A.
The police received a distress call about the shooting and arrived at the scene to find Nasiru’s lifeless body. His remains have been deposited at the morgue.
The recent surge in cult-related violence in Owo has left residents on edge, with many calling for heightened security measures to curb the bloodshed. As authorities continue their investigations, the community grapples with the fear and uncertainty left in the wake of these deadly confrontations.
